Client - Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council
Housing Services
Project Title - Radburn Estate, Rossington
Background - Poorly designed, post war housing
which had huge parking areas at the rear of properties. This
had led to broken up surfaces, derelict garages and an immense
problem for the local authority to clean up on a regular basis.
The fabric of the garages was falling part and the tarmac road
surfaces had deteriorated beyond repair. Also antiquated lighting
contributed to the areas being unsafe.
Brief - To extend each property's garden by
six metres to incorporate a parking bay within this area, re-fence
then create hard surfacing for the remaining non-highway areas.
Also to improve the common public areas.
Solution - Working in conjunction with Groundwork
Dearn Valley and Groundwork Environmental, the sites were cleared,
new sub-base and drainage installed; a new lighting system installed
... new fencing and gates were erected and black concrete, brush
finish parking bays were installed. The remaining public areas
were installed with black brush finished parking bays and imprinted
concrete. Two years after the first installation vandalism is
greatly reduced, cut the required maintenance for the local
authority and contributed to solving the neighbour and parking
issues that often arise. We have installed five sites to date
(approximately 6,500 square metres) and continue to work with
this client and other local authorities on similar projects. |
